This is the honest core of any budget-bed review. BARK's own listing
describes the build as Solid 2" PU foam + 1" gel memory foam
(bark.co,
read August 10, 2026): about an inch of memory foam riding on two inches of
support foam. A PetFusion
Ultimate Large or X-Large is a solid 4-inch slab of memory foam (Chewy
listing, same day) at $229.99 for the X-Large. "Memory foam bed" is
technically true of both: the thickness and construction are the entire
difference, and they are why one costs $55 and the other $230.
For a small dog, a young dog, or a spare bed for another room, a 3-inch layered stack is honestly fine. For a heavy dog or a dog with arthritis, the buyer orthopedic marketing targets, a thin memory-foam cap over softer filler compresses toward the floor, and the documentation gives no reason to expect otherwise. For that dog, ask your veterinarian what surface helps, and shop the solid-slab class in our pet beds guide.
| Size | Outer | Sleeping surface |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 24 × 16 × 3 | 20 × 12 |
| Medium | 29 × 18 × 3 | 25 × 14 |
| Large | 35 × 22 × 3 | 31 × 18 |
A documentation warning that has survived every version of this page: heights and even size lineups for this bed have differed across retailer listings over time (an XL appeared elsewhere that bark.co did not list on our read date, and the retailer pages that carried it were unreadable to our tools that day). Check the dimensions on the exact listing you buy from, rather than trusting a roundup, including ours.
bark.co states no warranty term for this bed; its coverage is a
100% Happy Guarantee
with no published duration or conditions on the
product page (read August 10, 2026). That is weaker paper than Casper's
1-year limited warranty and far weaker than Big Barker's published 10-year
term; if warranty is your deciding factor, this is not the bed. Whatever
retailer you buy from, screenshot the listing at purchase.
The honest thing about this bed's owner data is how little of it there is where we could read it: 4.56/5 across just 9 reviews on bark.co (August 10, 2026). That is too small a base to count patterns from, so this page reports none; the retailer listings that carry larger counts (Amazon, Walmart) blocked automated reads that day. The foam arithmetic above, not review folklore, carries this review's argument.
No US license regime covers dog beds, and no flammability standard applies to them: 16 CFR 1632 and 1633 define mattresses in human-sleep terms (16 CFR 1632.1 · 1633.1, read August 10, 2026). The documents that exist for this product are the bark.co listing itself (materials, care instructions, the guarantee line); we found no foam-certification claim on the page we read that day, which is itself a contrast worth knowing: PetFusion's manufacturer at least claims CertiPUR-US foam, while this listing claims no certification at all.
Is it orthopedic? "Orthopedic" is an unregulated word. This bed's documented stack is 1 inch of gel memory foam over 2 inches of support foam (bark.co, August 10, 2026); for a heavy or arthritic dog, the solid-slab class is the honest match, and your veterinarian is the right person to ask about a joint-diseased dog's needs.
Is the cover washable? Yes: removable, 100% polyester with a PU coating, machine washable and tumble dry low, per the bark.co listing read August 10, 2026.
Is it chew-proof? No, and nothing on the listing claims it is. No dog bed we have researched claims to survive determined chewers.
